Love: God's Banner Over Us!

By Apostle Joseph Hobbs, Th.D.
Son 4:2b

Son 2:4b And his banner over me was love. (KJV)

"When we stray from His presence, He longs for you to come back. He weeps that you are missing out on His love, protection and provision. He throws His arms open, runs toward your, gathers you up, and welcomes you home." - Charles Stanley

In ancient times an ensign or as we refer to it a banner was unfurled before an army went to battle against a adversary to announce who the raining authority was. When this banner was unfurled it would have some very surprising results. Depending upon the reputation of the reigning authority the opposing army would often surrender in defeat rather than risk their lives against a power greater than themselves. Well, I have some great news to share with you. When we are walking in obedience to the will of God, the banner that is unfurled before us for the enemy to witness and tremble is His love.

A good example of this is seen in Satan's desire to assault God's servant Job. "Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about this house, and about all that he hath on every side? Thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land." (Job 1:10 KJV)

Therefore, in the midst of consecrated praise and worship the enemy often trembles at the prospect of begin confronted by Jesus our warrior King. When ancients had a king who was renowned for his prowess in warfare they would place the temporary residence of the king within the midst of their encampment. The reason for this was that they knew that the king was more than a political appointee, he was first and foremost a warrior on behalf of his people. He was therefore known as one who would fight to the death to provide safety, peace, and security for his people.

In the same fashion of the ancient warrior kings, our Lord Jesus encampeth round about us to secure daily victories on our behalf. In the Old Testament the Angle of the Lord is none other than the pre-incarnate Christ, the Son of the Living God. Notice what the Psalmist discovered about the Angel of the Lord. "The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them." (Ps 34:7 KJV).

Our servant Kings banner over us is His great love. The enemy still doesn't grasp or understand what the Father sees in us. Remember, He laid his life down that you might pick yours up. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13 KJV)
